Before You Apply

For New Licensees/Applicants: Overview of Basic Licensing Concepts 
 
New Social Work Regulations

Degree Required
A Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree from a college or university accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work (CASSW).


LCSW - Who is Eligible?
LCSW applicants must complete the minimum requirements for Oregon or show documentation meeting equivalent requirements in other states.  ORS 675.530(3). 
 
The requirements are:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Complete the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the social work field.  The minimum, post-master's hours are:
    • 3500 Total Work Hours
    • 2000 Direct Client Hours
    • 100 Supervised Hours
  • Pass the ASWB clinical exam
  • Pass the Oregon Jurisprudence Exam (a self-test)

How to Apply
The LCSW Application includes:
 
An official transcript is required as part of the application process and is to be mailed directly from your graduate school to the Board office at 3218 Pringle Road SE, Suite 240, Salem, OR 97302. Please note on your initial application if your transcript name is different from your current name.
