Spotlight: BOLI Services for Employers
Seminar Technical Assistance for Employers Program gets some notice
"Folks who complain that Oregon's not a friendly place for business need to talk to Jennifer Germundson." So says the Salem Statesman Journal, in a recent article highlighting BOLI's efforts to support Oregon businesses.

Besides public seminars (click link at left), TA offers customized, on-site training for your business or organization. This is the most efficient way to train your managers and supervisors, or even your entire workforce, on the employment laws they need to understand. For information about this cost-effective option, contact Jennifer at Jennifer.Germundson@state.or.us.

For the best resource on handling particular laws in the workplace, order TA's detailed handbooks on Wage and Hour Laws, Family Leave Laws and other topics. For more information about the books or how to order, call Donald at 971-673-0825.

Don't forget, TA also offers a library of FAQs and Fact Sheets about employment law issues, available 24/7 for free on this website--just click the link at left.
About BOLI

Meet Oregon's Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian
BOLI's mission is to protect employment rights, advance employment opportunities, and protect access to housing and public accommodations free from discrimination.

BOLI's four principal duties are to: 1) protect the rights of workers and citizens to equal, non-discriminatory treatment through the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws that apply to workplaces, housing and public accommodations; 2) encourage and enforce compliance with state laws relating to wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment; 3) educate and train employers to understand and comply with both wage and hour and civil rights law; and 4) promote the development of a highly skilled, competitive workforce in Oregon through apprenticeship programs and through partnerships with government, labor, business, and educational institutions.
Boards and Advisory Committees
BOLI and Commissioner Avakian oversee several critical committees dealing with workforce development, civil rights, and prevailing wage rate law.

The Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council manages apprenticeship committees, programs, and policies and to approve apprenticeship committee members.
The Prevailing Wage Advisory Committee works to advise the Commissioner on issues related to the application of prevailing wage rate law.
The Expression of Milk in the Workplace Advisory Committee advises the Commissioner on issues related to the application of the expression of breast milk in the workplace law.
