Advisory Commission on Prison Terms and Parole Standards
Pursuant to ORS 144.775, Chief Justice DeMuniz has appointed Judges Julie E. Frantz of Multnomah County, Dale W. Penn of Marion County, and Michael E. Sullivan of Deschutes County to serve four-year terms on the Advisory Commission on Prison Terms and Parole Standards. Also serving on the commission by statute are the members of the Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision, and Liani Reeves, Legal Counsel to Governor Kitzhaber. The Director of the Department of Corrections, Max Williams, will act in an advisory capacity to the commission.
As provided in ORS 144.775(7), the role of the commission is to propose to the State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision rules establishing ranges of duration of imprisonment and variations from the ranges. The laws relating to the commission's organization and authority are located at ORS 144.775 - 144.787.
It is anticipated that among the topics that may be considered by the commission is the impact of recent Supreme Court decisions on certain classes of individuals who are serving sentences for the crime of aggravated murder. |
