Gaps in Data Reported
Some Known Gaps in Data Reported to the Law Enforcement Data System of the Oregon State Police
This information is taken from the annual LEDS reports.
  • In general, reported offenses for Negligent Homicide do not include vehicular deaths, but reported arrests include both vehicular and non-vehicular circumstances.
  • In 1997, the reporting of circumstances of Negligent Homicides was incomplete (hence, when "all force elements" are displayed for this crime, the total is less than 100%)
  • 1998 and 1999 Force Element data does not include data from the Roseburg Police Department
  • 1995-1999 Force Element data does not include data from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department or the Hillsboro Police Department.
  • The 1999 LEDS annual Report of Criminal Offenses and Arrests includes the following note: "The 1999 and 1998 reports include several footnotes for four agencies which are normally complete in all respects. These are the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Roseburg Police Department in Douglas County, the Hillsboro Police Department in Washington County and the Oregon State Police. Each of these agencies made changes to their automated information systems in anticipation of being able to report using new published State standards and formats. LEDS was unable to implement the new central reporting system as planned and, therefore, was unable to accept data from Douglas County, Roseburg, Hillsboro and Oregon State Police in the new format. These four agencies then implemented extra procedures to provide summary level arrest and offense data from their systems for this annual report. Data for some of the more detailed tables could not be effectively included and, where appropriate, these tables have been footnoted."
  • The Pendleton Police Department submitted no reports for 1991-1994, but resumed reporting in 1995.
