National Information Sharing Consortium

In June 2012,  the State of Oregon, Commonwealth of Virginia, City of Charlottesville, Virginia, City of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the State of California executed a Memorandum of Agreement to form a national information sharing consortium initially focused on states and localities that have participated in the US Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate’s Virtual USA program.  Of the 35 states that have participated in the Virtual USA program since 2008 – 29 of the states use the Esri Viewer for Adobe Flex.  That fact represents a huge opportunity for those states (including Oregon) to share viewers, widgets and other items of value with one another.

Although the initial focus of the consortium, supported by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) First Responders Group, will be on information sharing within the Homeland Security, preparedness and emergency management and response domain area, we believe the consortium presents an opportunity for information/code sharing on a “whole of government” scale.
