Variable Data Printing
“Variable data printing means that each document produced during a print run is different from the others. The difference can be as simple as a name and address or as complex as different images and page layouts. There are two broad categories of variable data printing: transactional and personalized. Transactional printing usually prints variable text onto static forms. Personalized printing can be grouped into three subcategories: customization, mail merge and one-to-one marketing. Customization involves changing the elements of a printed piece based on geography or demography. More than one unique copy can be produced with customization. Mail merge uses simple text elements such as name and address that are changed on each document. One-to-one marketing uses text, graphics, and design elements linked to a customer profile resulting in run lengths of one unique document.”
