More state information than ever before is available on Oregon.gov. State agencies have thousands of Web pages on the Internet. Finding information you need quickly can be challenging.

To make wading through all these Web pages easier, Oregon.gov has a new, improved search engine. Our search engine uses better indexing to find more Web sites that meet the search request. No more finding thousands of items that have no relevance to what you are searching for. With each search, our search engine learns more about how visitors ask for the information they want. So the search will be even more accurate.

Our search engine continuously scans for Web page changes. This means that your search will return the most up-to-date information available on state Web sites. In addition, our search engine can find information in documents that are not Web pages - documents like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe PDF, WordPerfect and other formats.

You use our search engine to find specific information. The new Oregon.gov search engine provides better ways to find your answers.
  • Simple Search - Type in one or two words and the search engine will find pages discussing those ideas.
  • Advanced Search - Search for a subject on Web pages updated after a certain date, like searching for events on pages updated within the last week. Or search for Web pages that contain one word, but not another, such as pages that contain license, but not driver.
Our search engine will find variants of the words you type in. You won´t miss any results.
  • Common misspellings – Our search engine index contains common misspellings of search terms. For example, if you accidentally type "comtent" instead of "content," you will still receive search results for content.
  • Inconsistent hyphenation and spacing – Our search engine will find all words that match your search terms, even those that use different punctuation or spacing. For example, if you search for "egovernment," your search results will include pages that contain "e-government."
  • Differences in capitalization – Our search engine is not sensitive to upper- and lowercase. "SEARCH," "search" and "Search" give you the same results.
  • Related words – Our search engine will find Web pages that contain variants of the search terms you use.  If you search for "filing," your results will include pages that contain the words "filing," "files" and "file."

You can browse through the Web pages that appear in your list of results. To make looking through the list easier, you will see the description of each Web page found under its title. If too many results appear, the "search these results" link allows you to search for more specific information within those Web pages.

You don´t want to wade through hundreds or thousands of Web pages to find one that answers your questions. With the new Oregon.gov search engine, you don´t have to.
