Building Information
  • Address:  550 Airport Rd, SE  Salem, OR  97301
  • Square footage:  75,545
  • Year constructed:  1980
  • Tenant:  Department of Administrative Services, State Services Division, Publishing and Distribution Section
  • History:   The Print Plant consists of both office space and industrial space with large digital printers and associated equipment.  The facility processes millions of copies for public sector agencies every month, as well as millions of pieces of mail a month.  The print shop for the state was moved out of the basement of the General Services Building and moved to this location at that time.  Oregon has a long history of State Printers.  The first was John Boone in 1845, and another prominent citizen, Asahel Bush was named State Printer in 1859.  Bush went into the banking business and founded Ladd and Bush Bank a decade later (which is still located on the corner of Commercial and State Streets).  For 135 years, the locations of the print shops moved around, including a long stint in the first two Capitol Buildings, until landing in is current building.
