Application Hosting - Mainframe Print Services
This is preparation of print from mainframe batch and online jobs. The SDC does not do printing. It does prepare output to be printed at locations close to the customer, or at the state Publishing and Distribution Center.
Customers should contact Publishing and Distribution to arrange for the actual printing and delivery of mainframe output.

 |
| SDC Responsibilities |
|
- Acquire printer definition and print spooling products that run on the mainframe and manage licenses
- Install and configure mainframe printer definition and print spooling products on SDC-managed hardware platform and test for system level functionality
- Maintain current product release levels[1]
- Define and manage any log and archive files associated with these products
- Consult with customers and Publishing and Distribution on printing solutions in terms of architecting changes to the mainframe to support new physical printers, new printer control languages, Forms Control Block (FCB) changes, font changes, and changes to physical processing flow(e.g., moving print spooling from mainframe side to Publishing and Distribution server side)
- Define logical printers and network paths to get to printers
- Perform alpha testing(i.e., pathway connectivity; sample jobs print on printer) and provide technical assistance to customers during user testing of new printing solutions
- Transfer print to defined print servers and printers
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune environments for optimum performance and availability
- Consult with vendor technical support staff to escalate issues that cannot be resolved internally
- Notify customers of requested customer and SDC upgrades and changes
- Patch and upgrade printer definition and print spooling products that run on the mainframe
[1] SDC policy on supported software versions will be developed at a later time

 |
| Customer Responsibilities |
|
- Determine which printing requirements will be met by central mainframe printing and which will be met by customer-site mainframe printing
- Provide centralized mainframe printing and distribution requirements to Publishing and Distribution
- Negotiate directly with Publishing and Distribution on hours of operation and other printing and forms delivery timing requirements
- Identify and request definition of customer-site mainframe printers
- Configure customer-site mainframe printers to accept output from the mainframe
- Perform impact analysis of proposed changes on customer’s applications and customer commitments
- Test requested capabilities prior to general release to customer end-users
- Coordinate schedules of upgrades and product releases so that important customer activities (e.g., application rollouts, application upgrades, training sessions or live service) are not affected by the changes
- Provide estimates of resource utilization and expected growth (i.e., print page volumes) to Publishing and Distribution
