Site to Site Virtual Private Network (VPN)
 
A Site to Site VPN allows the use of a secured "virtual" connection across an untrusted network. When a site to site VPN is deployed, it encrypts traffic from one network device (such as a firewall or router) to another. Traffic on the local area network is not encrypted.   

SDC Responsibilities

  1. Acquire product and manage licenses
  2. Install on SDC-managed hardware platform, configure and test for system-level functionality
  3. Maintain current product release levels[1]
  4. Receive, analyze, and implement customer requests for establishing site-to-site connections
  5. Define and manage any log and archive files associated with the product
  6. Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune environments for optimum performance and availability
  7. Consult with vendor technical support staff to escalate issues that cannot be resolved internally
  8. Notify customers of requested customer and SDC upgrades and changes
  9. Patch and upgrade products


[1] SDC policy on supported software versions will be developed at a later time

Customer Responsibilities

  1. Determine which locations require the use of site to site VPN based on the business need to encrypt data over network connections.
  2. Perform impact analysis of proposed changes on customer’s applications and customer commitments
  3. Test changes and new functionality prior to general release to end users
  4. Coordinate schedules of upgrades and product releases so that important customer activities (e.g., application rollouts, application upgrades, training sessions or live service) are not affected by the changes
  5. Provide estimates of resource utilization and expected growth in network bandwidth
