Motor Pool Closures
Reductions to the DAS Fleet budget for the 2009-2011 biennium result in permanent closure of the Eugene and Portland Motor Pools on June 30, 2009 and elimination of nineteen full time employee positions. A second cut reduces Fleet purchases for new vehicles by $10 million.

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
Customers that serviced their permanently assigned vehicles at the Eugene or Portland motor pools will now need to make other arrangements for the care of their vehicles.
o To obtain services in your geographic area contact our Field Service Coordinators in Salem @ 1-800-378-0077.
o The Salem Motor Pool will continue to provide services at the current level.

Vehicle Replacement Criteria
Next biennium Fleet will experience a significant reduction in capital outlay.  In turn this may reduce our ability to provide vehicles in a timely manner.  To assist in reducing this impact we changed our vehicle replacement. The existing criteria is 110,000 or 8 years, however, we typically run vehicles to approximately 120,000 miles and exceed the 8 years.  Effective immediately this will move to:
o 100,000 miles for law enforcement/emergency vehicles (No Change).
o 130,000 miles (regardless of age) for standard gasoline powered vehicles.
o 175,000 miles (regardless of age) for gas/electric or natural gas powered vehicles.

Fleet regularly examines mileage and maintenance records to ensure vehicles operate in a safe and cost effective manner.  Therefore, there may be exceptions to the criteria listed above.
We realize the short time frame for the closures will impact each of our customers in different ways.

For additional information about the closures or help with finding solutions for your agency, please contact:
o Kent Fretwell, Fleet Operations Manager in Salem @ (503) 503-378-2132
