Citizen Complaints and Police Citations
How Does the State Review Citizen Complaints and Police Citations?

Risk Management (RM) receives complaints from citizens about improper operation, or misuse of state vehicles by state drivers. Risk Management is also notified by various law enforcement agencies when they issue traffic citations to drivers of state vehicles. Traffic citations include photo radar.

These complaints and citations trigger a formal review. An e-mail is sent by RM to the driver’s agency. The e-mail describes the situation and requests a response. The agency’s answer outlines their steps to internally resolve the issue.

Resources are available to help state agency supervisors who are responsible for the investigation and resolution of these incidents. See the Citizen Complaint Toolkit for assistance.

Information about the complaint or citation is entered into the RM database. It is added to other safety and risk related statistics and published on an annual basis. This database is also available to agencies for analysis of vehicle incidents.
