Building Closures | Get a Text or E-mail

The Department of Administrative Services offers an additional way to get information when state government closes offices due to inclement weather or other factors: text messages, e-mails, or both. Please read all the information on this page before signing up.

NOTE: This service applies to regional- and county-wide office closures, not the closure of a single building or offices in a single city. Additionally, the service only applies to unexpected office closures. DAS does not use this service to announce office closures for state furlough days or state holidays.

Text messages: To receive a text message using this system, you must provide your cell phone number (without dashes, spaces, parenthesis or periods) and the name of your mobile service provider. Getting a text message on your personal cell phone may be the easiest way to get closure announcements that occur early in the morning. If you don’t normally text using your phone, contact your provider to ensure your service includes text messaging, and find out whether they will charge a fee. See Terms of Use, below, for more about fees and charges.

E-mails: You may sign up to receive an e-mail at one or two accounts. State employees may want to sign up their state e-mail account as that may be the easiest way to get closure announcements during the workday. It’s your choice. You may sign up to receive e-mails only, text messages only, or both.

More information: If you need more information, return to the building closure home page and review the policy, employment rules, and frequently asked questions located in the “Resources” section. DAS encourages state employees to speak to their supervisor if they need additional information.

Terms of Use
The Oregon Department of Administrative Services provides this notification system as a courtesy. This system serves as an additional level of communication between DAS and interested parties, including state employees, who want to know when state government closes offices because of inclement weather or other factors. The following tools represent the primary means through which DAS communicates building closures: the media, the following Web page, http://oregon.gov/sites/DAS/bldg_close/index.page, and for Salem and Portland closures, an employee-only hotline: 503-373-0850.

Technical difficulties may cause this notification system to malfunction or delay message delivery. DAS is not responsible for such mishaps. State employees have a responsibility to obtain notice of state office closures using the means listed above. Employees should speak to their supervisor if they have questions about the process the state uses to close offices, how the state communicates closures, the role of the employee, and the employment rules that apply.

A user cannot hold DAS responsible for any fees or charges incurred for text messages the user receives from this system. Users have the responsibility to confirm the terms of their cell phone account, including whether fees apply to incoming text messages, with their mobile service provider.

When cell phone or e-mail accounts change or close, this system will automatically remove those numbers or accounts. In that case, the user has the sole responsibility to return to this site to submit new cell phone or e-mail accounts to receive future closure notices.

By clicking “submit” on the form above, users agree to these Terms of Use.
