(Production Specialist)

The State Data Center, housed within the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), is seeking to fill an ISS3 position with the Operations Sections located in Salem.  The purpose of this recruitment is to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.  This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)/Oregon Public Employees Union (OPEU).
 
The State Data Center (SDC) is an enterprise shared services organization which develops and operates the state’s computing and network infrastructure.  The SDC’s mission is to enable and support the business goals and objectives of its customers by providing high quality, cost-effective computing and networking services.  The Operations team is a 24x7x365 group that manages all day-to-day operations of the State Data Center (SDC).  They have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the day-to-day activities are performed with the appropriate controls, priority, and according to established procedures. 
 
TO QUALIFY
 
Your PD100 application form and cover letter will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit your application form and cover letter must clearly show that you have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in computer science; OR
  • An Associate degree in computer science or college level coursework that includes 30 quarter (20 semester) computer science credits AND one year of information systems experience in network fundamentals, operating systems, and software and hardware standards; OR
  • Three years of information systems experience in network fundamentals, operating systems, and software and hardware standards.      
To receive credit for coursework, you must submit a copy of your transcripts.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
 
To successfully meet the challenges of this position, ideal candidates should have work experience demonstrating the following:
  • Strong background in current technologies, and system and process development methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in mainframe environments working with complex systems and different platforms.
  • Solid background with VTS and ATL systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with AS/400 and I-series Systems.
  • Working knowledge of CA scheduler, Beta 42 scheduler and Control-M scheduler.
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical customers.
  • Solid technical analytical skills and experience in problem analysis and resolution.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who have current JCL, production and customer service experience.
Only the candidates whose experience most closely match the qualifications and desired attributes of this position will be invited to an interview.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The primary purpose of this position is to monitor, maintain and provide technical, production and inventory support for the State Data Center’s computer systems.  Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
 
Customer Assistance:  Diagnose user problems; prioritize fixes and consider the impact of errors and changes.  Resolve server connectivity issues; reload routers, research recurring and widespread problems.  Analyze error codes and diagnostic messages using appropriate tools in a mixed environment; replace cards and perform minor physical repairs.  Conduct operating systems and production issue training.  Perform data analysis, reporting and extract information in a mixed data environment.  Troubleshoot problems reported by IS Staff.
 
Operations:  Schedule jobs for Mainframe and I-Series platforms, adjusting work flow in order to control traffic and volume.  Troubleshoot and install multiple operating systems.  Install new and upgraded technology; create connections in a mixed environment.  Manage inventory to ensure adequate levels for production needs.  Create request for proposals for items not on contract; perform as the data base quality control specialist.  Perform production svs functions; set up, schedule, calculate and verify date parameters and requirements; correct and edit for the final process prior to job execution. 
 
Construction:  Assess the need for technology new to the state and perform routine projects.  Evaluate minor compatibility issues.  Evaluate and recommend hardware options and assist in major upgrades and communication with multiple vendors.  Establish standards and precedents.  Consult with vendors on problem resolution and performs inventory management.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Normal office environment working at a computer terminal around noisy machinery in a consistently air conditioned area (68-72 degrees) and includes managing projects with conflicting requirements and tight deadlines.  Business needs may require working irregular hours (24/7, weekends, evenings, holidays) and travel for job related purposes.  May require reassignment to one of three shifts (days, swing or graveyard).  Requires frequent lifting of 20-55 lbs. boxes with considerable bending and stretching.
