The Department of Administrative Services (DAS), State Data Center is seeking to fill two Limited Duration, full-time Storage Systems Architect positions within the Distributed Systems Section located in Salem. These limited duration positions are scheduled to run through June 30, 2011. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)/Oregon Public Employees Union (OPEU).
The State Data Center (SDC) is an enterprise shared service organization, which develops and operates the state’s computing and network infrastructure. The SDC’s mission is to enable and support business goals and objectives of its customers by providing high quality, cost-effective computing and networking services.
TO QUALIFIY
- Your State of Oregon Application form (PD100) and cover letter will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section. To receive credit your application and cover letter must clearly show that you have:
- Six years of professional consultative, technical or administrative experience providing expert advice and leadership in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of information systems. Experience must include expert technical level, enterprise-wide, operating systems customer service, installation, configuration, development, and planning; AND EITHER
- (a) at least 30 quarter (20 semester) credits in computer science; or (b) two more years of experience providing knowledge of information systems theory and principles. OR
- 15 quarter hours (10 semesters) graduate level computer science, software engineering, information systems, or equivalent credits may substitute for one year of professional experience. To receive credit for coursework, you must submit a copy of your transcripts.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
To successfully meet the challenges of this position, ideal candidates should have work experience demonstrating the following:
- A solid technical background with knowledge of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), SAN Storage Systems, UNIX fundamentals, software and hardware standards
- Strong technical analytical skills in a secure data center environment
- Ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical customers
- Project management skills
Preference will be given to those applicants who have a current project management certification recognized by the state of Oregon. Only the candidates whose experience most closely match the qualifications and desired attributes of this position will be invited to an interview.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Storage Systems Architect provides the highest level of technical and architectural support to reduce the amount of data storage consumption for Distributed Storage systems and associated subsystems on a statewide level in the State Data Center. Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
1. Customer Assistance: Assist Agencies with decisions on reducing the amount of duplicate data and aged file space consumption. Ensure regulatory, safety and security requirements are met. Develop and present formal training.
2. Operations: Test and install technology to aid in the reduction of duplicate data and the overall store required and determine the impact to existing systems. Resolve resource competition issues. Tune systems for best performance.
3. Constructions: Perform needs assessments and create new business processes. Resolve conflicts and coordinate resolutions. Mesh software with variety of hardware. Determine the best choice of vendors. Solve conflicting system and version issues. Integrate changes and monitor system performance. Ensure interfaces with outside parties are operational.
4. Planning: Evaluate new cost saving technologies and determine compatibility. Perform cost/benefit analysis and recommend change. Assist in writing inter-governmental, multi-platform project plans for multiple heterogeneous project teams. Plan all system level events including installs, patching and upgrades. Supply management with status reports on all projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment with extensive use of personal computers. Work environment includes managing projects with conflicting requirements and tight deadlines. Business needs may require working irregular hours or shift work (24/7, weekends, evenings, holidays) and travel for job related purposes.
