Legislative concepts
The deadline for submission of legislative concepts for the 2005 legislative session is fast approaching. If you are submitting concepts that streamline business regulation (making compliance faster, cheaper, easier to understand), please e-mail a copy of that concept to Myrna Curzon, so that we can keep track here.

New on the Web site
Speaking of legislative concepts, we have a new tool on the Web site to help in thinking through whether new or expanded regulation is the right approach to solving a problem. Included in the recently released budget and legislative instructions from DAS, it's a series of questions to ask before proposing new or expanded regulations.

License directory
The State License Directory is now up and very nearly complete. You can link to it here: www.oregon.gov/lic. On the directory, you´ll find over 1,100 licenses, permits, certifications, and the like, for everything the state licenses, from "Abalone Harvest Permit (recreational)" to "X-Ray Sales, Services, Consultation, and Servicing License for Radiation Machines." The database is searchable by key word, agency, or topic and includes links to databases of individual license and permit holders.

We think it is the only directory of its kind in the entire nation, and the Information Management Division staff at DCBS and all of your staff who did the input work deserve thanks.

Agency focus
ODOT is now just over a year into a major move into electronic commerce for trucking firms. Their system, launched in January 2003, allows truckers to complete almost every transaction online from registering trucks to paying weight-mile fees. It´s being used by almost 1,800 trucking companies who made more than 34,000 transactions last year.

Here is a link to an article from the Daily Journal of Commerce about the program:
