    Settlement with Ocwen Financial Corporation will require the company to provide $2 billion in loan modification relief to its customers and $125 million in refunds to consumers whose homes were foreclosed. The settlement agreement is with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and 49 states, including Oregon.

    Borrowers who did not cash or deposit checks as a result of the Independent Foreclosure Review, will receive a replacement check in the mail from Rust Consulting Inc.

    Nearly 600,000 checks mailed to borrowers resulting from the agreement between 13 servicers and federal agencies remain outstanding, and have now expired.

    As part of the agencies’ ongoing efforts to reach these borrowers, the paying agent, Rust Consulting Inc., was directed to conduct additional searches of updated addresses. Borrowers must cash or deposit the replacement checks within 90 days of the issue date or the check will be void.
