The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive regulatory state agency. Its Workers’ Compensation Division administers, regulates, and enforces the laws and administrative rules governing the Oregon workers’ compensation system.
The division’s Medical Section is charged with administering, regulating, and enforcing the medical component of the workers’ compensation system. The Medical Reviewer resolves disputes using either collaboration to help parties reach agreement on contested issues, or by researching applicable law and rules, making findings of fact, and issuing administrative orders consistent with laws and rules. The Medical Reviewer also assists and instructs medical providers, insurance companies, employers, workers, and others regarding administrative rule application and the dispute resolution process. The Medical Reviewer also participates on projects to innovate the system’s medical component to improve the delivery and affordability of medical services.

The successful candidate will have
- a minimum of five years experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to decide compliance or eligibility with program processes, laws and rules. Three of the five years must be above the technical support level and include patient care experience or its equivalent.
College-level course work may substitute for experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year, up to a maximum of three years.
Preference may be given to candidates who have patient care experience or its equivalent in the following: providing or monitoring medical care within the scope of a medical license; analyzing medical charts/records to assess patient status; preparing and implementing nursing care/treatment plans. Additional consideration may be given for the following: experience in billing medical services; experience processing payments for medical services; or experience resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution.
