The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting consumers and workers in the State of Oregon. The Insurance Division, part of DCBS, is responsible for protecting the public's interests by ensuring the financial soundness of insurers, the availability and affordability of insurance, and fair treatment of policyholders and claimants while maintaining a positive business climate.
The successful candidate will assess the effectiveness of insurance markets and monitor the individual companies comprising that market, taking appropriate action when problems are identified. They will investigate allegations of violations of Oregon law to protect the insurance-buying public.
The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at the Insurance Examiner level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the Insurance Examiner - Entry qualifications (listed below) to apply as we may consider underfilling the position for up to 24 months. Underfill candidates will be paid at the Insurance Examiner - Entry salary range of $42,564 - $59,412 Annually.

INSURANCE EXAMINER option:
The successful candidate will hold the Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE) or Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE) designation offered through the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society.
INSURANCE EXAMINER - ENTRY Underfill option (must meet the qualifications for Insurance Examiner within 24 months of hire).
The successful underfill candidate will have a minimum of
- a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. (Three more years of relevant experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree.) OR
- One and one half (1.5 years) of experience in insurance compliance examination work, auditing, accounting, underwriting, claims adjudication, or loss adjusting work related to the insurance industry; AND an Associate's degree in any discipline (one more year of relevant experience may substitute for the Associate's degree.)
Requirement: eligible to hold the Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE) offered through the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES) within two years of employment with the Oregon Insurance Division.
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- Demonstrated experience in designing, coordinating and/or conducting data collection efforts, informational research projects or surveys and analyzing data collected;
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer software applications used in analyzing data.
- Demonstrated skills in writing analysis and communicating findings in clear and concise language;
- Ability to effectively confer with and advise insurance companies to ensure proper use of rates, policy forms, endorsements, sales and marketing material.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
