2013 Workers' Compensation costs
The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) recently announced these workers’ compensation costs for 2013: 
  • A 1.7 percent increase in the workers’ compensation “pure” premium rate.
  • Maintenance of the workers’ compensation premium assessment at 6.4. (Self-insured employers and self-insured employer groups will continue to pay an additional 0.2 percent into a reserve to pay claims in the event of a bankruptcy.)
  • An increase in the Workers’ Fund Benefit Assessment from 2.8 cents per hour in 2012 to 3.3 cents starting April 1, 2013.

  • A proposed decrease in the workers’ compensation premium assessment, from 6.4 percent in 2011 to 6.2 percent in 2012. (Self-insured employers and self-insured employer groups will continue to pay an additional 0.2 percent into a reserve to pay claims in the event of a bankruptcy.)
  • No change in the Workers’ Fund Benefit Assessment. It will remain at 2.8 cents per hour.

2011 WC rate information
 
The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) compensation rates for 2011. Overall, costs for employers remained flat. The changes included:
  • A 1.8 percent decrease in the workers’ compensation “pure” premium rate for 2011. The reduction marked the fifth straight year of a rate decrease and the 21st consecutive year with no rate increase.
  • A proposed 1.8 percentage point increase in the workers’ compensation premium assessment, from 4.6 percent in 2010, to 6.4 percent in 2011. The assessment rate had decreased four times since 2002.
  • No changes in the Workers’ Benefit Assessment -it remained at 2.8 cents per hour.
