DEQ Regulation of PGE Boardman

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is accepting comments on closure options for Portland General Electric's coal-fired power plant in Boardman. DEQ's options outline the pollution controls necessary for plant closure in 2015-16, 2018 or 2020. PGE has also submitted a new alternative 2020 closure plan for comment. There will be five public hearings where people can find out more about the proposals and provide comments. DEQ Administers Economic Stimulus Funding for Oregon Environmental Projects
DEQ is currently administering an estimated $51 million or more in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding for environmental projects in Oregon. DEQ has been awarded approximately $44 million for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) loan program, $447,200 to conduct water planning projects, $1.7 million in state clean diesel funding for grants, and up to $2.8 million to protect human health and the environment by cleaning up petroleum leaks from underground storage tank sites. Oregon E-Cycles Program Outpaces Last Year's Collection Total at Mid-Year
Halfway into its second year, the Oregon E-Cycles Program is collecting volumes of old TVs, computers and monitors at a faster pace than its inaugural year. Through the first six months of 2010, totals from collection sites and events amounted to 11.9 million pounds. That's 2.4 million pounds more than last year's mid-year totals.
