Business Process Mapping visually represents what a business does, who is responsible, what standard each process has and a quantifiable way to determine success. Ideally, every process in a business and each of the computer systems with which they interact will be documented (AS-IS and TO-BE) using Business Process Mapping (another term often used is workflow maps).
Business Process Mapping is usually associated with engineering and re-engineering a business's processes, IT systems and their interaction including organizational structures with modeling and simulation applied to gain the most efficient and optimal organization and processes. Mapping language can be simple standard symbols to BPMN depending upon the maturity of the organization.

|
Value Stream mapping is a Lean technique used to analyze the flow of materials and information required to bring a product or service to a customer. Lean is used in manufacturing and service environments to eliminate any steps that don't add value for the customer. A Value Stream map begins with a customer interaction and ends when the customer receives some level of value.
