Training

The administrative rules require that most staff and provider contacts who process criminal history check information complete training as either a contact person (CP) or an authorized designee (AD).

There are currently three training modules available to our customers:

1. Rules Training for New Authorized Designees/Contact Persons (OR3137) is a classroom training for initial certification as an AD or CP.
    
   
2. CRU Re-certification E-Learning 2009 (C01064) is an online recertification training for anyone currently an AD or CP. This class does not require pre-registration but is accessible via the DHS Learning Center online registration system.

Registration and/or training information for these items is available through the DHS Learning Center online registration system. If you experience problems with registration, contact the Criminal Records Unit Training Coordinator for assistance at 503-378-5291.

3. New: Criminal History Check Essentials: Online Training Manual is our newest training tool. This self-paced online manual is an alternative to classroom training and will fulfill the training requirement for becoming an AD or CP. Access the link above to start your training session. Pre-registration is not necessary. (The 11/20/09 update to this manual changes only the signing authority for CJIS clearance.)

Other Tools & resources

• The provider crime list (Revised 4/2009), referenced in the provider rules, may be a helpful tool for those who process requests for criminal history checks. The list is searchable and is color-coded by length of review time. By pointing your mouse at the ORS number, the full statutory description of the crime will display.
   
  
• Oregon State Archives Division Records Retention Schedule (Revised 6/5/07) for criminal background check records.
   
  
• Staff and providers who are involved with the criminal history check process can order a copy of the Criminal Code of Oregon at the Oregon Legislative Counsel Web site.
   
  
• For senior facilities required to submit fingerprint fees, the VISA/MasterCard/Discover Authorization Form is now available online.
