Becoming an AmeriCorps HOPE Member
What do AmeriCorps HOPE Members do?
AmeriCorps HOPE Members serve directly with youth, parents, and community members in the communities in which they are placed. Each Member will have an individual Service Plan (work plan) of activities for the term.
Each Service Plan activity is designed to implement direct service components of the Oregon Youth Sexual Health Plan and align with the HOPE grant Performance Measures.

Members are required to:
- Enter into a Member Agreement with Americorps HOPE and commit to serve full time (minimum 1700 hours) over an 11-month term of service.
- Attend orientation and all required team trainings and events
- Attend their respective Host Site orientation and trainings for each activity in their individual Service Plan
- Perform all activities in their Service Plan
- Participate in at least two national service day-themed community projects
- Complete required forms and reports
- Participate in leadership, civic engagement, and community service
- Participate in service reflection / prepare portfolio
What benefits do AmeriCorps HOPE Members receive?
- $5,500 educational award after an 11-month term of service, which can be used to pay off existing student loans or pay for future college or vocational school expenses
- Members ages 55+may choose to transfer their earned education award to their child, grandchild, or foster child
- $12,100 living allowance (federal stipend), in 11 monthly payments of $1,100 during term of service
- Forbearance of payment on qualified student loans while serving
- Interest accrued on loans in forbearance is paid by federal government upon completion of term of service
- Basic health insurance coverage for Member during service
- Child care supplement if qualified
- Free training, in-service learning opportunities, job skills development, work experience, professional contacts
- Joining AmeriCorps and Alumni, a national service movement of more than half million incredible citizens committed to service, with rich diversity yet kindred goals and values
Minimum qualifications
- U.S. citizenship or permanent legal status
- Minimum age 18 years; no maximum age limit
- Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform essential job functions in Position Description and Service Plan activities, with or without accommodations
- Demonstrate good communication skills
- Pass satisfactory criminal records check and national sex offender registry check

See the Host Site Roster on this website for locations and brief description of each Member's Service Plan. Then contact the site supervisor directly at each Host Site location where you would like to be considered. Tell the site supervisor you have submitted an online application, you are interested in their position, and ask for an interview.
