INTRODUCTION
DHS is a large, diverse organization with multiple goals and exceptionally broad department-wide programs. The Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult specialty populations from throughout the state. Inpatient services are currently licensed at 681 beds on 19 hospital units and residential services at 96 beds on 3 units. OSH also offers community outreach services, specialized evaluations, and has a consumer support office.
QUALIFICATIONS
You must meet at least ONE of the following minimum qualification criteria:
To qualify as an ART THERAPIST, you must:
Have a Master's degree in art therapy, AND
Be certified as an Art Therapist (or certification eligible), AND
Be registered with the American Art Therapy Association.
OR,
To qualify as a MUSIC THERAPIST, you must:
Have a Bachelor's degree in music therapy, AND
Be certified as a music therapist (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (or certification eligible)
OR,
To qualify as a THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALIST, you must:
Have a Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, AND
Hold a certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist (obtained through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification) or be certification eligible.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees in these positions provide individualized assessments and treatment programs in art, music or recreational therapy. This specialized treatment service is goal-oriented and directed toward rehabilitation and modification of specific physical, emotional, cognitive, or social behaviors.
Gather information on patients to provide an initial and comprehensive assessment;
Design and carry out individual treatment programs and write individual treatment goals for residents/patients;
Develop and maintain documentation strategies and methods which record patient's progress in the program, and evaluation of service provided; and
Participate as a member of an inter-disciplinary treatment team.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working a flexible work schedule as a condition of employment. This means that the hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends. The hiring manager will determine work schedule specifics.
Involves contact with mentally/emotionally-disturbed patients.
May encounter adverse physical and environmental conditions when providing outdoor programming to patients.
Must possess a valid Oregon Driver License with acceptable driving record; may be required to drive patients by motor vehicle.
