This employment opportunity is with Oregon State Hospital, which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There are two full-time positions; Community Transition Team located in Salem and in Psychiatric Recovery Services located in Portland. These positions are represented by a union.
This recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
INTRODUCTION

The Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult specialty populations from throughout the state. Inpatient services are currently licensed at 681 beds on 19 hospital units and residential services at 96 beds on 3 units. OSH also offers community outreach services, specialized evaluations, and has a consumer support office.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements: Applicants must have completed an occupational therapy education program which is recognized by the Oregon Occupational Therapy Licensing Board; AND
Licensure Requirements: Applicants must obtain an Oregon Occupational Therapy license within six months of hire.
Preference may be given to candidates who are certified by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Transition Team
The Occupational Therapist in this position provides assessment and treatment services for persons with the Community Transition team for consumers, who are under the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) or Civilly Committed. The person in this position is responsible for assessing consumer needs for discharge placement and skills for transition to the community, making recommendations to interdisciplinary treatment teams (IDT) for the development of appropriate skills and placement needs, leading or co-leading treatment groups and community outings and providing clinical consultation and supervision to staff, students and volunteers. In addition, this position provides consultation to the Forensics program regarding sensory modulation disorders and treatment recommendations and services.
Psychiatric Recovery Services
The Occupational Therapist in this position provides occupational therapy services to the patients in Psychiatric Recovery Services in a treatment mall setting. The person in this position is responsible for assessment and treatment services, evaluation of effectiveness of services, related documentation and consultation. This position also makes recommendations for discharge supports and placements, and consults regarding sensory modulation disorders and treatment recommendations. They also serve as a member of the Psychiatric Recovery Services treatment mall team.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbents in these positions work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings as assigned and the incumbent’s flexibility to work this schedule is a condition of employment. May be required to work hours subject to change with little notice. May be required to work hours that exceed regular schedule (i.e., a double shift or a different shift) in addition to regular schedule.
Work involves daily contact with patients who manifest mental disorders and incumbent may encounter patients with hostile and potentially violent behavior.
Must be able to interact with patients, give and receive instruction to patients and staff and plan, organize and evaluate effectiveness of task.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, run, and lift 15-50 lbs.
You must have a valid Oregon driver’s license and a good driving record.
