This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division, which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There is one JOB-SHARE and one FULL TIME opening in the Office of Family Health, Immunization Program in PORTLAND. A union represents these positions.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in a health or education field AND one year of public health experience.
A Master's Degree in a health, education or related field may substitute for the one year of public health experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the Immunization Health Educator (job-share) position is assisting the Provider Services Team (PST) in carrying out team goals, objectives, planning, development and evaluation activities. Along with other health educators on the team, this position provides services to public and private providers in a small territory of the state. The position is responsible for the ongoing recruitment, retention, training and education of these providers about all aspects of the Immunization Program, including but are not limited to: Vaccines for Children (VFC), Public Sector 317 Programs, ALERT (Oregon’s Immunization Registry) and AFIX (a continuous quality improvement process). In addition, this position is responsible for coordination of special projects of the PST, including focused immunization outreach pilots and program wide social marketing committee activities.
The purpose of the Public Health Educator position is to assist in the development, coordination, marketing and implementation of Immunization assurance and quality improvement activities provided to enrolled clinics across a large portion of the state. These activities include, but are not limited to: Vaccines for Children (VFC), Public Sector 317 Programs, ALERT (Oregon’s Immunization Registry) and AFIX (a continuous quality improvement process). In addition, this position also shares responsibility for education and training of immunization providers and the general public.
Major duties include:
Education, Training and Consultation: Plans, develops, and conducts individual and group trainings, workshops, in-services, or conferences pertaining to Immunization Program activities in respective counties; provides in-person (site visits) and telephone training and technical assistance to assure providers comply with the policies and procedures of Immunization Program services; provides training and consultation, including statewide in-services and workshops on immunization in general; consults with private and public sector staff on development and evaluation of new programs and health education materials.
Technical Assistance: Prepares and edits technical articles, publications, and reports; assists in the preparation of content and presentation materials for county, state and national conferences and workshops; represents the immunization program at state and national meetings; develops or arranges promotional and educational material; researches and answers immunization questions (using the guidelines listed in 5a of this position description) from public and private medical providers and the general public; provides technical assistance on a daily basis from the office and on regular provider site visits on the following: current immunization recommendations: types, nature and use of vaccines; coordination and spacing of vaccines, techniques of administration; side effects and adverse reactions; contraindications, procedures on exposure to disease, vaccine storage and handling.
Program Planning: Identifies immunization strategies in provider offices, and determines educational approaches to address them; plans and implements appropriate educational strategies; uses these strategies to develop health education materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works a professional workweek and the employee’s flexibility to this work schedule is considered a condition of employment. It is understood that the hours of work may vary from day to day, week to week and will include occasional weekend and evening hours. The hiring manager will work with the position incumbent to determine work schedule specifics
Approximately 50% of the work occurs during site visits to public and private immunization providers. These trips are 1- 5 days in duration. Work hours may be other than 8:00 - 5:00, including evening and weekends.
You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
