This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division, which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There is one full time located within the Office of Disease Prevention & Epidemiology / Program Design and Evaluation Services located in PORTLAND. A union represents this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in any discipline that included:
- Six-quarter units in statistics; OR
- Quantitative analysis methods and procedures; AND
- One year experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.
NOTE: College transcripts must be included and courses clearly marked if using this option to qualify.
OR
Four years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.
AND
- Experience using trends such as social, economic, or industrial to do analytical research.
- Experience using advanced statistical or quantitative analysis computer applications.
- College-level course work in advanced statistics or quantitative analysis such as multiple regression, factor analysis, analyses of variance and discriminate analysis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary purpose of this position is to collect and analyze data to assist in the evaluation of statewide tobacco control programs. In consultation with other staff, the person in this position will: 1) design, implement, and analyze data from surveys and other data sources; 2) conduct analyses of archival datasets (such as vital statistics and hospital discharge data); 3) review and interpret relevant tobacco control literature; and 4) present findings using tables, graphs, and reports.
Major duties include:
- Manage relevant datasets and prepare them for analyses. Analyze data sets and create narrative and statistical reports, including summary tables, graphs, and charts for presentation, publication, or other administrative uses. Reports may include data analyses as well as information from secondary sources.
- Assist in the evaluation of statewide tobacco control programs by working with data collection and reporting systems related to assessing and monitoring the burden of tobacco use. In consultation with other epidemiology staff, identify methods to be used in data collection, including the design of survey questionnaires.
- Confer with government personnel, community partners, and other interested parties on their needs for data analysis and information. Prepare written responses to requests for research information and provide technical expertise. Review and interpret relevant tobacco control literature. Participate in special projects and assignments as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works in a typical office environment with extensive use personal computers. Often needs to prioritize multiple projects.
