This employment opportunity is with the Office of Information Services (OIS)/Business Process Management (BPM) unit, which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There is one full-time opening located in SALEM. A union represents this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in computer science; OR
An Associate degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 30 quarter (20 semester) computer science credits AND one year of information systems experience in supporting technical and user documentation development and maintenance; OR
Three years of professional, consultative, technical, or administrative experience providing technical writing support and writing/modifying user and technical documentation.
NOTE: To receive experience credit, please list your qualifying experience under the Specialized Skills and Knowledge section of your PD100.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Office of Information Services (OIS), located within Administrative Services of DHS, is comprised of a small Administrative Support group and four operating entities: (1) Application Maintenance and Support, (2) Customer Service and Support, (3) Strategic Systems Initiatives, and (4) IT Consulting Services. The OIS mission is to provide exceptional information services committed to fulfilling the DHS mission of assisting people to become independent, healthy and safe.
Through the management and use of state-of-the-art information systems technology and the establishment of statewide standards-based systems operations, OIS strengthens the DHS mission by providing information services to: (1) DHS operating divisions: Children, Adult and Families, Health Services, Senior and People with Disabilities; and (2) department-wide support services: Director’s Office, Office of Communications, Finance, and Administrative Services.
With a total biennial budget of $169+ million and more than 390 employees, OIS provides statewide services to more than 350 locations, including more than 140 DHS offices statewide, the Division of Child Support, (a Division of the Department of Justice), the Employment Department, cities, counties, other computer centers, other state agencies, other states, private hospitals, district attorney’s offices, and other entities. OIS serves over 9,700 DHS users, maintains and supports over 8,500 computer devices, technical support for the security of data and reliability of over 15,500 databases and files, and manages more than 500 network connections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is a Technical Writer for the Office of Information Services. The Technical Writer supports the Business Process Management (BPM) unit. This position provides technical and user documentation development and maintenance; Business process and procedures technical documentation; Business process mapping; System work flows, entity relationships, and flow charts technical documentation; Documentation for business users and technical staff that is precise and easy to understand; Strong user and technical documentation writing and communications skills; Ability to work with all levels of staff.
Major duties include:

Provide Technical and User documentation development and maintenance support by writing/modifying user and technical documentation for the BPM. Provide strong user and technical documentation writing and communications skills. Work with all levels of staff. Create documentation for business users and technical staff that is precise and easy to understand. Develop Business process and procedures technical documentation. Develop Business process mapping. Create technical documentation of system workflows, entity relationships, and flow charts.
Documentation Standards
Maintain documentation standards, processes and procedures. Provide support to the BPM in developing and maintaining process documentation and map repository.
BPM Unit Support
Provide a resource to DHS project activities and support for Project Managers and Business Transition Managers. Participate in support of BPM web site, tools, templates, and processes. Provide input to BPM planning of work initiatives. Provide support of BPM Project Management workshops.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with extensive use of personal computers. May require long hours with night and weekend work and occasional travel.
