A Bachelor's degree in a business related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science or accounting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Overview
Assist in the preparation and execution of the audit plan for the Department of Human Services. The auditor will assist with or individually complete audits of the department in accordance with department policy, professional audit standards and the audit plan.
Major Duties Include
Audit Activities: Under general supervisor of the lead auditor or supervisor, complete audit steps as assigned in the audit plan. Assist with evaluations of management internal controls and economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of operations and systems. Review fiscal and accounting functions, as well as grant programs or activities as provided in the audit plan. Gather data, interview staff and management, and prepare flow charts of operations to analyze internal controls. Document and compile work paper conclusions to summarize observations in preparation for report writing. Perform the audit steps in accordance with department policies and the audit program. Assist with follow-up reviews to document management’s actions to address audit recommendations.
Professional Development: Participate in training designed to develop knowledge and skills in professional auditing. Develop knowledge of Agency operations and activities. Study new pronouncements on accounting principles and auditing standards and techniques as developed by authoritative bodies within the profession.
Planning and Organizing Audits: Gather, collect, and assemble data and information on subjects such as agency program(s), organizational issues, or policies and procedures. Document the processes and outcomes of research and investigations for audit planning. Survey narrow scope audit areas, and recommend direction and objectives of the proposed audit. Assist the lead auditor in drafting the audit scope and objectives as well as organizing the activities of the audit – sampling, onsite visits, communication to management, etc.
Communication: Prepare work papers that document the audit work and support the basis for audit conclusions and recommendations. Participate in pre-audit and interim progress meetings with agency staff and present results of work verbally or in writing. Assist with or prepare segments of the audit report for review by the lead auditor including recommendations for improvement and documenting the management action plan.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work will be performed in a normal office environment using a variety of office equipment on a daily basis. (Telephone, Computer, Copier, fax, etc.). The hiring manager will work with the incumbent to determine work schedule specifics. Working conditions and schedule may vary depending on current workload.
Statewide travel required including overnight trips. You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
