HABILITATIVE TRAINING TECHNICIAN 1
(Nursing Assistant Trainee)

$12.06 - $16.55 HOURLY


This employment opportunity is with Addictions and Mental Health, Oregon State Hospital (OSH), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). Oregon State Hospital is looking for caring and empathetic individuals seeking a career in providing services to mentally and emotionally ill adults. We are offering an exciting PAID EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY for persons with an interest in the mental health field. Experience gained through this training opportunity can be listed as part of the employee’s qualifications on future applications and may qualify you for promotional opportunities.
 
We are currently recruiting for qualified candidates to participate in the OSH paid Nursing Assistant (NA) training program located in Salem. Successful candidates will be placed in Full Time Temporary appointments for up to 90 days. All successful candidates offered a position will start at step 1 of the salary range, which is approximately $12.06 per hour, quoted from the step 1 monthly salary range of $2,090 per month. The next class is scheduled to start September 28, 2009.

 the monthly salary range of $2,090 - $2,868.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
Applicant must be able to complete the Nursing Assistant Education Training Program within 90 days of hire. (This training will be provided at the expense of Oregon State Hospital).

  • This is a Nursing Assistant education training program where a significant amount of time is in a classroom setting. Describe your interest, skills, and experience in the following: a) Academic preparation, b) Coursework preparation, c) Studying new materials.
  • Describe both your individual and team member contributions in previous jobs or life experiences.
  • Describe your motivation in obtaining a certificate for becoming a nursing assistant in Oregon.
  • Describe your motivation to work at the Oregon State Hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The Habilitation Training Technician 1 (HTT1) will be educated to provide care to adults who are mentally and emotionally ill. Educational program will include learning to:
 
Participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction and apply and demonstrate learned skills.
 
Monitor and/or assist patients in daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, grooming, and dressing; assist with lifting, moving, turning, walking patients, assist the licensed nurse with medical care such as collecting specimens, measuring blood pressure, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
 
Assist with admitting and discharging patients to and from the wards.
 
Serve as a resource person for patients by attending to their basic physical, emotional, and social needs. Assuring that patients have such personal items as soap, toothbrushes, shampoo, and are bathed, groomed, properly clothed, and fed.
 
Escort patients off ward when assigned, maintaining security procedures in transport.
 
Observe and record behavior.
 
Document patients’ response to treatment and share the information with the treatment team; provide input for the changes in treatment programs.
 
Spend time interacting with patients individually or as a group
 
Participate in verbal and physical interventions with patients as needed.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Flexible work schedule is necessary. Must be able to work flexible hours and in various locations.  Work hours subject to change with little notice. 
 
May be exposed to communicable diseases including blood borne pathogens.
 
May be exposed to detergents and other cleaning agents on a daily basis.
 
Work with a population of psychiatric patients who are physically disabled, mentally ill or emotionally disturbed, and who may exhibit aggressive or assaultive behavior.
 
Must be able to complete Mon – Fri schedule for 90 days without absence.
 
Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently.
 
Must be able to frequently climb up to 5 flights of stairs while assisting clients.
 
Must be able to engage in activities that require frequent kneeling to the floor.


Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
 
Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.

Must possess basic data entry and computer skills.

You must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.   If not, you must be able to provide an approved alternate method of transportation.
