DISABILITY ANALYST 1
(Social Security Disability & Supplemental Security Income Liason)

$3,086 - $4,495 MONTHLY


These employment opportunities are with Seniors and People with Disabilities, Disability Determination Services (DDS).  All are part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).  There are TEN full-time positions located in SALEM.  These positions are represented by a union.
 
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Bachelor's degree in Medicine, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation or a closely related field; OR
 
Three years of responsible pertinent experience which provided a knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, physical and mental impairments, how the impairments affect work performance and the treatment, prognosis and duration for mental and physical impairments (e.g. Military Corpsman, Nurse, Psychiatric Aide, Medical Assistant, Bodily Injury Claims Adjudication, Industrial Therapist, etc.); OR
 
An equivalent combination or experience and education that would typically lead to the required knowledge and skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The Disability Analyst makes judgments and findings of fact as to the nature and severity of physical and mental impairments and evaluates applications for Social Security disability benefits by applying Social Security laws, court orders, rulings, regulations and State laws and regulations in light of such judgments and findings of fact.
 
The Disability Determination Services staff makes eligibility decisions for Social Security disability benefits. Duties may include:
 
Develop medical, vocational and other evidence to document eligibility for disability benefits under Social Security Law; evidence is developed by mail, phone or in person;
 
Evaluate evidence to determine if eligibility requirements are met; consult with agency medical consultants to determine functional limitations of applicants;
 
Write decisions and personalized denial notices on all claim types;
 
Prepare residual functional capacity statements and other written assessments to document file;
 
Authorize purchase of consultative examinations as delegated by supervisor; and
 
Participate in on-going and self-instruction; reviewing medical and vocational Publications and Program Operations Manual System (POMS) to keep current on information needed to accurately evaluate disability claims.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
The person in this position works a professional workweek and the incumbent's flexibility to this work schedule is considered a condition of employment.  It is understood that the hours of work may vary from day to day, week to week. The hiring manager will work with the incumbent to determine work schedule specifics.
 
Occasional travel.  You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.   If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
 
Dealing with hostile and aggressive claimants whose benefits have been denied.
