This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).  There is one full time opening within the Office of Disease Prevention & Epidemiology (ODPE), Acute and Communicable Disease Program (ACDP) located in PORTLAND.  A union represents this position.
 
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
A Bachelors degree in Community Health, Epidemiology or a closely related field and two years of epidemiological or community health experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The purpose of this position is to serve as an epidemiology liaison to local public-health departments, other state agencies and the health-care community, regarding public-health preparedness for and response to threats to the health of Oregonians.
 
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
 
Investigate outbreaks, performing case-control and cohort studies of communicable diseases and surveillance of health problems.
Plans outbreak investigations and other epidemiologic studies, including identify study populations.
Reviews and analyzes communicable-disease surveillance data.
Advise local health department personnel on control of communicable diseases, including design of investigations and analysis of data.
Provides epidemiologic consultation to and serves as liaison for local health department staff.
Develops and delivers training on communicable disease control and in public-health emergency preparedness to both internal and external partners.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Must be able to access information from a variety of sources, including textbooks, professional journals, computer programs, internet, and via consultation with other experts. Work hours may include nights and weekends. Travel, may be required in increment weather conditions. You must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.  If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
