This employment opportunity is with Addictions and Mental Health, Oregon State Hospital, which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). This list will be used to fill one full-time position. This position is located in Salem. This position is Management Service and not represented by a union.
You must be a current employee (this includes regular status, trial service and limited duration employees) with the Department of Human Services to apply for this position.

*If you are hired and have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field related to nursing, you may be eligible for an additional salary differential of 4.75% or 9.5% of your monthly salary.
NOTE: Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.

The Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult specialty populations from throughout the state. Inpatient services are currently licensed at 700 hospital beds on 19 treatment units and 70 residential beds on 2 treatment units. OSH also offers community outreach services, specialized evaluations, and has a consumer support office.
QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of nursing experience including some supervisory and/or teaching experience which shows knowledge of
- Nursing techniques and therapeutic intervention used in care and treatment of patients (specific to the employing facility);
- Supervisory techniques and work management of subordinate personnel; and
- Administrative and educational principles and practices involved in nursing administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders for improving services and patient outcomes.
Evaluates her/his own performance based on professional practice standards, relevant studies and regulations, and organizational criteria identifying areas of strength, as well as areas for professional/practice development.
Develops education programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression from novice to expert in the practice of nursing.
Contributes to nursing management education and professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
Promotes research, and integrating evidence-based knowledge into the identification of best practice in the delivery of nursing care to the appropriate population.
Responsible for interviewing and hiring.
Responsible for operating within approved budget.
Actively collaborates with the Treatment Mall Manager in the provision and supervision of centralized treatment services.
TREATMENT MALL DUTIES:
Responsible for the oversight and coordination of nursing staff while at the treatment mall, as well as the coordination, tracking and directing of patients and group leaders at the mall.
Provides linkage between unit staff, IDT, care coordinators, treatment mall staff, staff RN’s, nursing supervisors and nursing management to insure accurate and appropriate flow of information.
Plans, organizes and oversees, in collaboration with others, the selection and assignments of patients to the treatment mall groups each session.
Works with care coordinators to insure patients are in groups that meet their current needs and preferences.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Utilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.
Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and others practicing in a Shared Governance model of nursing practice.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
WORKING CONDITIONS Involves daily contact with physically disabled, mentally and/or emotionally disturbed patients.
Exposure to infectious diseases on a daily basis.
The person in this position works a professional workweek and the incumbent's flexibility to this work schedule is considered a condition of employment. It is understood that the hours of work may vary from day to day, week to week. The hiring manager will work with the incumbent to determine work schedule specifics.
Occasional travel. You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
Must have basic computer skills and be willing to learn new technologies as they are introduced into the workplace.
