This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).  There is one part-time position (approximately 30 hours a week) in the Oral Health Program within the Maternal and Child Health Section Office of Family Health (OFH), located in PORTLAND.  A union represents this position.

Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to Human Services/Public Health; and two years experience coordinating or administering a program related to human services/public health.
 
OR
 
Any combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience coordinating or administering a program related to human services/public health.
 
NOTE: A current Oregon Registered Dental Hygienist license is desired. Please indicate your license in the License / Registration / Certificate section of the State of Oregon application form (PD100).

  • Experience of dental caries etiology, prevalence, and age specific prevention strategies.  Describe your understanding of population-based prevention of dental caries.
  • Experience with public health or oral health community-based prevention and promotion programs.  Describe your role and level of responsibility in the program, and the groups involved with the program.
  • Provide examples of experience coordinating or participating in a comprehensive program and your level of responsibility between you and other parties involved.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the School Fluoride Program; maintain Oregon Water Fluoridation Reporting System; and provide support to the statewide School-Based Dental Sealant Program as needed.
 
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
 
Assess the status of the school-based Fluoride Program and prepare and interpret assessment reports to Oral Health Program Manger and State Dental Consultant.
 
Conduct outreach to eligible schools to raise awareness of and increase participation in the School-Based Fluoride Program.
 
Prepare and present written materials to educate and raise awareness about fluoride supplements among the eligible elementary schools.
 
Represent the Oral Health Program at meetings at the local, state, regional and national levels regarding School-Based Fluoride Supplement and /or School-Based Dental Sealant Programs and/or other health issues.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Travel in and out of state to with overnight stays to attend meetings and provide training and technical assistance.
 
You must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.  If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
