This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There is one full time position within the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Section located in PORTLAND. A union represents this position.
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures, and one year experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.
College transcripts must be submitted with qualifying courses CLEARLY MARKED if using this option in order to verify the necessary six-quarter units.
OR
Four years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position plans and directs the gathering, compiling, analyzing, and reporting of statistical data relevant to colorectal cancer and tobacco in Oregon, specifically morbidity and mortality data and data related to tobacco use among Oregonians.
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
Independently plans and carries out analyses of data sources.
Provide interpretation of data analyses via summary tables, graphs, charts, presentations, as well as narrative and statistical reports.
In collaboration with program staff, periodically assesses the needs, methods, and procedures for the evaluation of the state’s colorectal cancer and tobacco prevention efforts.
Provide technical assistance on evaluation and data collection to grantees and contractors, and other parties.
Explains and discusses sources of colorectal cancer and tobacco-related data with others.
Designs, conducts and participates in data quality assurance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Routine travel both in-state and out-of-state to attend meetings, conferences, and make presentations. You must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. If not, you must be able to provide an alternate method of transportation.
