This employment opportunity is with Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).   There is one limited duration position (10 months from the date of hire) within the Virology/Immunology Program section located in the Hillsboro office.  This position is represented by a Union. 
 
Benefits for this position include a family health plan and leave accrual.
 
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
 
Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
 
An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
 
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.
 
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience receiving and screening calls, reviewing forms for compliance and ensuring necessary information is obtained, data entry, setting up and maintaining organizational filing systems and maintaining inventory and records.
  • Experience working in a healthcare/medical environment.  List the locations where you gained your experience and describe the duties you performed there.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The purpose of this position is to provide a wide variety of secretarial, technical, and administratively related tasks in support of the Virology/Immunology Section’s operations.
 
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
 
Receives and screens calls for the Virology/Immunology Section and maintains a positive public image by referring them to the appropriate person.
Reviews test request forms for compliance with established criteria and ensures that all necessary information is provided; determines and takes appropriate corrective action.
Maintains inventory of supplies and prepares purchase requisitions for materials to be ordered.
Responds to and logs inquiries for the Virology/Immunology Section or directs inquiries as necessary. 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Daily risk of exposure pathogenic bacterial, viral, and chemical agents found in a clinical laboratory.
Long periods in seated position.
