This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).  There is one limited duration position (24 months from date of hire) within the Injury Prevention and Epidemiology Section located in PORTLAND.  A union represents this position.
 
Benefits for this position include a family health plan and leave accrual.

Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
A Bachelors degree in Community Health, Epidemiology or a closely related field AND four years of epidemiological or community health experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker or project leadership role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
This is a project-oriented position that will use epidemiological methods and concepts to collect data that can assist in evaluating the effects of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s (OPRD) all-terrain vehicle (ATV) education program on reducing the incidence and risk of injuries due to the use of Class I and III ATVs, and providing data on injuries and injury circumstances for determining what measures can decrease the risk of ATV-associated injury outcomes in Oregon.
 
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
 
Establish and maintain a sentinel injury surveillance system consistent with established project work scope.
 
Develop data collection tools and processes.
 
Secure data from primary sources; work with data entry staff to establish data quality control procedures.
 
Oversee database development and management.
 
Assist in case follow-up and interviewing; prepare data and conduct basic analysis; report on and present preliminary results and project progress.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Extensive use of mainframe and microcomputers and video display terminals.
