(Counselor Assistant)

$2,128 - $2,945 MONTHLY


This employment opportunity is with Children, Adults and Families (CAF)/Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (OVRS), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). There is one full-time position located in LA GRANDE.  This position is represented by a union.
 
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
 
INTRODUCTION
 
OVRS is a statewide resource for people with disabilities and is part of the Department of Human Services. We assist individuals with disabilities in getting and keeping a job. OVRS is a state and federally sponsored program.
 
OVRS works in partnership with the community and businesses to develop employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
 
Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more of the following specialized human service program areas:
Economically disadvantaged
Substance dependent
Mentally or physically disabled
Child abuse and neglect
Juvenile delinquent
 
Any degree in a related mental health or human service program may substitute for six months of the required experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
This position provides direct consumer support services for a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
 
The major duties include:
 
Providing direct consumer follow-up and case documentation;
Providing direct support services to consumers with disabilities by assisting with the completion of application forms, gathering information to assist in the determination of eligibility for OVRS services;
Drafting letters requesting information related to caseload activities;
Providing information and scheduling appointments;
Authorizing services and completing authorization for purchase documents;
Reviewing billing invoices for accuracy;
Utilizing the Oregon Rehabilitation Caseload Automation System and;
Contacting professionals to coordinate planning for the clients.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Occasional travel. You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. If not, you must be able to provide an acceptable alternate method of transportation.
