This employment opportunity is with the Public Health Division (PHD), which is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS).  There is one permanent position within the Acute & Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP), Section in PORTLAND A union represents this position.
 
This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
 
You must be a current employee (this includes regular status, trial service and limited duration employees) with the Department of Human Services to apply for this position.
 
Please be aware that due to the economic downturn and subsequent state budget short-fall the Governor has ordered mandatory furloughs for employees. This position will be required to take furloughs in the biennium 2009-2011.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
College-level coursework that includes at least three quarter units in business technical report writing, three quarter units in quantitative analysis or statistical principles, and six quarter units in computer concepts and microcomputer applications such as word-processing, spreadsheet and database.
 
A copy of your transcripts must be submitted to verify the six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures.  Please CLEARLY MARK the qualifying courses.  Highlighted courses do not show up on the fax machine.
 
OR
 
One year of experience in work that included gathering data from various sources and using software applications to retrieve, edit or tabulate data into forms or reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The purpose of this position is to maintain the reportable communicable disease surveillance system for the Oregon Public Health Division, which will eventually incorporate sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis cases.
 
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
 
Daily interpretation of faxed reports, data-entry, reporting and analysis of incoming electronic disease data.
 
Researches and compiles data and works with epidemiologists to generate custom daily disease reports.
 
Serve as key user-acceptance-tester for enhanced database project.
 
Log all incoming calls into database. Update CD summary mailing list.
 
Date-stamps and distributes incoming faxes.
 
Assist with large data entry projects.
 
Collect and compile data requiring specialized program knowledge as well as judgment in selecting from a variety of reports, computer printouts, logs, etc.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Mostly front office work.  Long periods of sitting at a desk.
