MMA Overview

The Medicare prescription drug program also known as Medicare Part D was implemented to subsidize the cost of prescription drugs for beneficiaries receiving Medicare Part A and/or B.

It was enacted as part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization act (MMA) of 2003 and went into effect January, 2006.

People with Medicare can enroll in one of many drug plans starting on November 15th of each year. People with Medicare and Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program can change plans each month. They do not have to wait until November 15th.

The MMA Hotline Team are advocates whom specialize in problem solving for the Department's Medicare Part D clientele.
