Bend, Eugene, Medford and Gold Beach meetings will focus on asthma


Improving asthma care in Oregon is the topic of four free community meetings to be held in Bend, Eugene, Medford and Gold Beach in October, sponsored by the state Department of Human Services.

Local members of the Oregon Asthma Network are strongly encouraged to attend, as are others in the community that have a strong interest in asthma care in Oregon. Meeting dates, times, and locations are:

Oct. 13 in Bend: Meeting is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Stan Owen Room at the Deschutes County Health Department, 2577 NE Courtney Drive. Keynote speaker is Matthew Hegewald, M.D., pulmonologist with St. Charles Community Hospital.

Oct. 14 in Eugene: Meeting is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 205 at Lane Community College Business Building, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. Keynote speaker is Khuram Ameen, M.D., pulmonologist with Peace Health.

Oct. 15 in Medford: Meeting is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 101 at Jackson County Community Justice Building, 1101 W. Main Street. Keynote speaker is Kent DeYarman, M.D., allergist at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Oct. 16 in Gold Beach: Meeting is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Blue Room at the County Building, 94235 Moore Street. Keynote speaker is Ron McCoy, M.D., pulmonologist at Northwest Diagnostic.

Participants will learn about asthma and the latest statistics, find out about the development of a new Web resource site and explore local asthma issues and activities. Registration is required. This is the fourth year that these meetings have been convened. An additional meeting in La Grande will be scheduled later in the fall.
