Public Health Advisory Board meets next Friday in Portland




PORTLAND -- The Public Health Advisory Board will hold its next meeting Friday, Sept. 8, to hear presentations and discuss topics related to public health issues affecting Oregonians. The meeting will feature a noontime talk by Andy Davidson, CEO of Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems.


Agenda topics include:

  • 9:15 a.m. -- Discussion of DHS public health budget proposals and legislative concepts for the 2007 legislative session;
  • 9:45 a.m. -- Preview of plans for a November emergency preparedness exercise;
  • 10:30 a.m. -- Preview of a soon-to-be-released youth obesity study;
  • 11 a.m. -- Report on procedures for determining reportable diseases;
  • 11:15 a.m. -- Update from the workgroup reviewing public health laws and authorities.

The meeting will take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Room 140 of the Portland State Office Building, located at 800 N.E. Oregon St.


Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations should call the DHS Public Health Division, 971-673-1291, at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.


PHAB is a 15-member Governor-appointed board charged with reviewing statewide public health issues and advising the DHS Public Health Division on public health policy matters.
