ABCs/EIP Network: Oregon is part of the ABCs Network which includes California,
Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and New York and Tennessee.
- FoodNet-Oregon (Foodborne Illness Surveillance)
Tracking foodborne illness using surveys of physicians and laboratories, case-control
studies, and active case finding of foodborne pathogens.

- Unexplained Illness & Death Surveillance
Identifying early emerging new pathogens in previously healthy persons 1-39 years old
with an unexplained, though apparently infectious critical illness.
- Molecular Epidemiology: PulseNet
, the
national molecular subtyping network for foodborne disease surveillance, applies
pulsed-gel electrophoresis (PFGE) to isolates of E. coli, Salmonella,
and other disease-causing bacteria.
- Antibiotic Resistance
We explore ways to
reduce unnecessary antibiotics so that bacteria are less likely to develop resistance
to diseases.
