Arthritis in Oregon Report
  • Arthritis in Oregon - 2005 Report (pdf) Results from the 2005 Oregon BRFSS demonstrate that arthritis is a major public health issue in this state.  The prevalence of clinically diagnosed arthritis among adult Oregonians is 27%.  An additional 18% reported symptoms consistent with “possible arthritis” (chronic joint symptoms in the absence of diagnosis by a healthcare provider).  It is estimated that over 1.3 million adults in Oregon have arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.

Arthritis Program Plans
  • Oregon Arthritis Action Plan 2006 (pdf) In 1999, the Oregon Health Services received a two-year planning grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to staff an Arthritis Program that could develop population-based approaches to assess and address arthritis in Oregon. Working with the Oregon Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, the Health Services convened a diverse group of individuals and organizations to form the Arthritis Advisory Council. The purpose was to draft a comprehensive - yet practical - statewide plan to address the impact of arthritis in Oregon. This is the 2006 Plan.

  • National Arthritis Action Plan: A Public Health Strategy (pdf) CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion provided grants to 37 state health departments in 1999 to develop and enhance state-based programs that will decrease the burden of arthritis and improve the quality of life among people with arthritis.
