About the Database
Oregon's Childhood Diabetes Database
The Childhood Diabetes Database (CDD) program is a new program at the Oregon Public Health Division. This program implements statute ORS 444.300, which requires schools and health care practitioners to report cases of diabetes in children aged 18 years and younger to a state database. The purposes of the CDD are: 1) to determine prevalence and incidence of diabetes in Oregon children, 2) to support research that improves care for children with diabetes, and 3) to assist the Public Health Division in making decisions about the allocation of resources.

There are an estimated 2100 children in Oregon with diabetes. Until practitioner and school reports to the CDD are complete, there is no mechanism in place to identify and track the actual number of these children. Oregon is the first state to implement a statewide database for children with diabetes. It is anticipated that preliminary incidence and prevalence information will be available by fall 2010.
