Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Fact Sheets

  • Chancroid
    Chancroid is a highly contagious yet curable sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacteria Haemophilus Ducreyi [hum-AH-fill-us DOO-cray].

  • Chlamydia
    Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, a bacterium, which can damage a woman's reproductive organs.

  • Gonnorhea
    Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in mucous membranes of the body.

  • Hepatitis B
    Hepatitis B (HBV) is a serious viral infection of the liver.

  • Herpes
    Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV -1) and type 2 (HSV-2).

  • HPV
    Genital HPV infection is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

  • Nongonococcal Urethritis
    NGU (NonGonococcal Urethritis) is an infection of the urethra caused by pathogens (germs) other than gonorrhea

  • PID
    Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a serious infection in the upper genital tract/reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries) of a female.


  • Syphilis
    Syphilis is a complex sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum.

  • Trichomoniasis
    Trichomoniasis is caused by the single-celled protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis and affects both women and men, although symptoms are more common in women.

  • Bacterial Vaginosis
    Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection in women of childbearing age.
