TB Data
Incidence of TB has been declining over the past decade. In 2008, 75 cases of TB disease were verified in Oregon, for a rate of 2.0 cases per 100,000 residents. This is a decrease from 2007, when 94 TB cases were reported.
TB incidence is higher in foreign-born than US-born residents; in Oregon, 77% of the TB cases from 2008 were among foreign-born residents.
Inadequate treatment of TB can lead to drug-resistant TB; therefore, directly observed therapy (DOT) is the standard of care in Oregon. In 2008, 4.5% of isolates tested were resistant to INH (a primary first-line TB drug). No cases of multi-drug resistant TB (MDR TB, or TB that is resistant to at least both INH and rifampin) were reported in Oregon in 2008.
