| About us: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Prevention Program |
| General information |
We are a prevention-based program, funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Oregon FAS Prevention Program is part of the Department of Human Services, Public Health Division, Office of Family Health, Women's and Reproductive Health section.
| Our mission |
The goal of the FAS Prevention Program is to develop and implement a surveillance system for FAS throughout Oregon in order to assess the impact of FAS, provide data for the planning of FAS services, improve diagnosis of FAS and create awareness of the risks of alcohol exposed pregnancies, both in the professional and public communities.
| What we do |
The FAS program consists of four components: surveillance, tracking resources, individual-level intervention and community-level intervention.
Our projects
- Working to establish the prevalence of FAS in Oregon (surveillance)
- Working to evaluate the BALANCE project, an intervention for college-age women who binge drink (individual-level intervention)
- Working to evaluate Don't Open This! a social marketing campaign for women (community-level intervention).
