Message from our Transformation Sponsor
By Bobby L. Green, Partnerships Transformation Initiative sponsor
As a former local elected official with more than 20 years of experience and currently serving as the director of local government affairs for the Department of Human Services (DHS) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA), I'm excited about this opportunity to become a part of a dynamic team to further the work of the Partnerships Transformation Initiative. Communication and collaboration are the cornerstones to developing solid relationships with our local governmental partners. We are working together to solve problems and make decisions to deliver services from DHS and OHA in the most efficient and effective way possible in the best interest of all Oregonians.
I'm enthusiastic about the work of Partnerships Transformation Initiative because it gives DHS, OHA and our local partners a focused, organized approach to improving the way we provide human services to Oregonians. This approach also provides a way in which we can measure the results of our work.
The relationships we are focusing on in this first phase of the partnership work are those primarily involving county governments. This is because state law requires that the state and local governments share responsibility for providing some of the services Oregonians rely on most - mental health, alcohol and drug treatment, developmental disabilities, assistance to seniors and public health.
The work in this phase of the Partnerships Transformation Initiative is as varied as it is ambitious. We'll hold regular meetings with county judges and commissioners to improve communication and planning. We'll share information and get feedback from our local government partners on DHS and OHA plans for rules, policies and budgets. We'll look for ways to reduce the number of reports, plans and other paperwork we require from counties.
When we learn that a county has a good model for providing a service to Oregonians, we'll share it with all the other counties. Services will be streamlined so we can make the most efficient use of the funds Oregonians provide to us.
